Another article from The Dean of Cincinnati blog archives.  This was a letter to Phil Heimlich on July 23, 2005 about his role with the International Association of Character Cities, which some have identified as a cult.  We have had a request to repost this material.

A follow up to an article posted at the Independent Eye entitled ”Phil Heimlich and Character Cities,” requesting clarification about Heimlich’s involvement with some controversial figures.

Dear Commissioner Phil Heimlich:

It is my understanding that your are slated to appear as a keynote speaker for the International Association of Character Cities.

Some have called this group a far-out Christian sect run by Bill Gothard. Critics characterize his techniques as outrageous, and his connections to the Republican Party (and to the Bush brothers specifically) is well documented.

The upcoming conference is being run by Tom Hill, who is the president of an oil company.

What relationship, exactly, does the Cincinnati Chapter of Character Cities have with this Bill Gothard operation? What relationship do you have with both of those parties?

Have you helped them with any fundraising? For what is the money being used? Are their financial documents available?

I look forward to publishing your response to this open letter, which has been published at my web magazine.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully,

The Dean of Cincinnati
