Chris Bortz is Wrong: OTR Sheriff Patrols NOT Covered by Collaborative Agreement
Sunday, October 28, 2007
At the Urban League forum on October 18, I was asked my opinion of the Collaborative Agreement. Among other things, I stated that the sheriff patrols in Over-the-Rhine were not covered and that this was a problem. Chris Bortz strongly criticized me and said I was completely wrong—that the sheriff patrols were in fact covered by the Collaborative Agreement and that city council would never have approved the patrols if they weren’t. Well, Chris Bortz is the one who is completely wrong.

Jeffre, Patton Release “Comprehensive Neighborhood Rescue Plan”
Tuesday, October 30, 2007
The much anticipated “Comprehensive Neighborhood Rescue Plan” (CNRP) has been released by City Council candidates Justin Jeffre and Michael Earl Patton. The plan includes several innovative concepts—all of which could be utilized for the improvement of Cincinnati even if both Jeffre and Patton do not win seats on City Council. That is the real beauty in the release of this plan—a no-strings attached blueprint for improving Cincinnati.

The Environment: Cussing versus Second-Hand Smoke
Sunday, October 28, 2007
So the other day I took my son to Bellevue Park on Ohio Avenue to play. As we pulled into the parking spot, he was thrilled to see that there were three other children playing—all with their father, who had a van. The family was white. Adjacent to the playground was another parking area, where a large group of black men were standing around, talking very loudly.
What power in that juxtaposition!

Word on the Street: Democrats and Discontent!
Thursday, October 25, 2007
This morning, word on the street has it that two things have happened to throw a huge monkey-wrench into the plans of corporate Democrats locally. First, Brian Garry has reportedly stepped out of line with his party and opposed the jail tax; second, Freeman McNeil of the Cincinnati Democratic Committee has apparently paired his un-endorsement of Jeff Berding with an endorsement for Justin Jeffre.

The Philosopher, Ten Years, and Toilet Paper
Sunday, October 28, 2007
A friend of mine has a degree in philosophy, and every once in a while we we talk philosophically with one another—sometimes for fun, sometimes with total seriousness. Then there are times when, upon first examination, the subject seems absurd, but then it grows on me—and in fact one conversation with this philosopher has stuck with me for some time. The topic is on the one hand crude, and on the other an insight into human habit. It will challenge you to consider the manner with which you approach your lifestyle, and the degree to which you succeed (or fail) at improving in a general sense from the experience of living.

YouTube Attack on Wulsin Totally Misses It’s Target
Saturday, October 27, 2007 |
|
In the fight for Ohio’s 2nd congressional district, a YouTube attack ad totally misses the mark in trying to undermine Dr. Victoria Wells Wulsin, who is running in the Democratc primary against former Republican Steve Black. Could Steve Black be behind the latest attack? But more specifically, who could be so ignorant as to forget that Dr. Wulsin at one time had the last name “Wells”? | Read More »
