Neil Bortz = No Interest Campaign Loans?
Sunday, September 09, 2007

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

When regular people want a short term loan, they are subjected to the high interest rates and harassing collections tactics from predatory lending agencies like “Check Into Cash.” But, if you are a high-profile politician, and you want to borrow a thousand dollars, the solution is simple:  just get a donation from a friend that is over the amount allowed, and then take your good old time paying it back!  There is not a penalty for borrowing money in this manner!  And it looks like that’s just what Jeff “Gerald” Berding has done with Neil Bortz.

According to this contribution record, Neil Bortz gave Berding $1,000 on March 3rd, 2007.  It was returned to Bortz on June 27th.  (Berding also received an easy grand from Bortz on May 9th, 2006.)

Sure, anyone can make up excuses about this.  Maybe Bortz forgot in March that he had given a thousand bucks the previous year.  Then again, the Bortz family is pretty politically oriented, so it does seem unlikely.  Maybe something else is going on.

This looks like a “Check Into Cash” program for politicians.  Berding essentially got a cash advance from Neil Bortz for $1,000, for over three months.  What a great deal!
