Love us or hate us, for many of you The Cincinnati Beacon has become a permanent part of your daily political and news lives.  We hope you can help us continue to serve you!  We are mounting a fundraising drive because we just got kicked off our shared server for too high resource usage!  In other words, The Beacon has grown too popular to function properly with inexpensive shared web hosting plans.  (And the price of an upgrade to a virtual private server is significant!) We have only paid for the first month, and we need your help to pay the bills for one more year!

So here’s the obligatory writing about how we have never made a profit off The Cincinnati Beacon.  Naturally, there is no way to prove this to you.  For all you know, we are rolling in serious cash and having drinking binges at your expense regularly.  But in all honesty, we spend a surprising amount of hours on this project—especially now that we have the accompaniment of a print edition.

And while all of this really is a labor of love, it is hard to keep focused on that passion when huge bills are threatening the bank account.  So please consider helping us with a donation!

In memory, there are only two times I have asked for donations for The Beacon: the first when my friend shut down his server and we had to find our own space to host the site, and the second when I wanted to buy a new template for the site.  (Actually, it took me a REALLY long time to get the template changed after I bought one that didn’t work out.  That was back before I knew about sites like http://www.oswd.org ).

But this time the need is clear and current:  we have already switched to a virtual private server (since they only gave us a few days to solve the resource overages, and I don’t know how to stop people from visiting the site without shutting it down!), and now we need to figure out how to pay for it.

We would really appreciate your help!

Also, with our new server, we may also be able to provide space for your own small web page for what you currently pay someone else.  Another way you can help The Beacon maintain is by letting us host your site.  What you already pay might just be able to subsidize our move to a new server.

As always, thank you for your support, your consideration, and thank you for reading The Cincinnati Beacon.
