Tom,

I haven’t received a reply to my August 4 inquiry to Dave Wells, copied below, so I’m bringing this to you.

The August 4 guest column by Crystal Faulker failed to identify her as a member of Phil Heimlich’s re-election campaign, a fact readers are entitled to be aware of. Please advise if the Enquirer intends to publish a clarification. If not, why not?

I also noted that yesterday’s column about the jail proposal by Peter Bronson also referenced Crystal Faulkner and Commissioner Heimlich, but didn’t identify her as a member of his re-election campaign: http://tinyurl.com/nv84r Same request here.

Thanks and looking forward to your reply.

Cordially,

[The Dean]

Mr. Wells:

Today’s Enquirer included this guest column by Crystal Faulkner advocating the building of a new county jail: http://tinyurl.co.uk/ayt5

From this week’s CityBeat cover story by Kevin Osborne, “The Politics of the Jail”: http://citybeat.com/current/cover.shtml

“If we don’t do something, we’re going to end up needing an even bigger jail,” says task force chair Crystal Faulkner, a local accountant and radio talk-show host. “People don’t usually get over drugs by just going to jail.”

The same evening the recommendations were released, Faulkner held a fund-raiser for (Phil) Heimlich’s re-election campaign at her Hyde Park home. Her son, Nick, works on Heimlich’s campaign.

Some people, including (Todd) Portune, have questioned whether Faulkner’s ties to Heimlich affected the task force’s conclusions, which were supposed to be the result of an independent, non-partisan review.

This is to request that the Enquirer publish a clarification identifying Ms. Faulkner’s relationship to Commissioner Heimlich’s re-election campaign. If the Enquirer chooses not to publish a clarification, please provide me with an explanation.

Sincerely,

[The Dean of Cincinnati]

cc: Todd Portune, Kevin Osborne
