Has the superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools, Rosa Blackwell (pictured to your right), decided to use public school real estate to campaign for her husband’s gubernatorial bid—J. Kenneth Blackwell? For the last several days, Blackwell yard signs have been spotted at the Woodford Paideia School in Kennedy Heights.
On Friday afternoon, The Cincinnati Beacon attempted to find out the district’s policy for candidate endorsements. A secretary, speaking informally, thought that CPS did not lend real estate space for signs about political candidates, but she re-directed the inquiry to an office that had already left for the day.
The fact that Superintendent Blackwell is the candidate’s wife, however, throws suspicion on the use of this public land for such endorsements. This is not a school levy issue, but an exercise in partisanship.
