Friday, December 23, 2005
|
All of the following ideas are still available for the last minute shopper, so fire up your printer and get ready to hit the streets with all the other people who wait until the last minute. (In fact, I sometimes think that last minute shopping is better. In the spontaneity of the moment, we can be inspired by the muse!)

Consumer Alert: Beware Used Baby Car Seats!
Thursday, December 15, 2005
|
This morning, my wife was in a car accident: she was rear-ended while stopped to turn left. She had our two-and-a-half year old son in the car, and our fifteen-month-old nephew. When we took the kids to the emergency room for a check up, the ER doctor told us something we had never heard before children’s car seats are no good after being involved in an accident. The first thing that came to my mind were places like Once Upon A Child , which sells used items (including children’s car seats).

Open Letter to The Vineyard Church
Sunday, December 11, 2005
|
Yesterday, after posting this open letter to Crossroads Community Church, some commenters suggested I was being unfair and that I should make similar inquiries to other churches about whether they will encourage their congregation to avoid shopping at Wal-Mart this holiday season. So I decided to send this variation to The Vineyard, a megalithic church in the Tri-County area featuring stadium style seating and a food court.

Continuing the Fight Against Big Box Retail
Friday, December 09, 2005
|
In yesterday’s Enquirer, Feosha Henderson reported about citizens in Blue Ash defeating an attempt to build a Super Target. (What is Phil Heimlich doing in that story? Is he really a champion against such development, or does he and Chris Finney have their own real estate connections influencing his decision?) In any event, the following letter from Robert Greewald (producer/director Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price) seems timely given these local developments…

Day Laborer for a Day
Thursday, December 08, 2005
|
Its 4:30 in the morning, and Im cutting through Washington Park on my way up to the corner of Liberty and Elm. Most people up at this hour in Over the Rhine are not going for a morning jog, dressed in their monochromatic American Eagle sweatsuit with matching headband. I am no exception to the norm, sporting my finest blue jeans, flannel, and horribly mismatched brown plastic bag from Kroger.
