Saturday, December 10, 2005

via Wikinews

The President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who recently called for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” says the Jewish state should be moved to Europe and questioned whether the Holocaust actually took place. Needed v. Desired Food Items
Friday, December 09, 2005

Sometimes, I find things that have been left behind:  discarded insights into the lives of other people.  This evening I came across someone’s shopping list, and I thought some of you, like me, might enjoy the testamonial such a tid-bit makes into the nature of humanity…

Continuing the Fight Against Big Box Retail
Friday, December 09, 2005

In yesterday’s Enquirer, Feosha Henderson reported about citizens in Blue Ash defeating an attempt to build a Super Target.  (What is Phil Heimlich doing in that story?  Is he really a champion against such development, or does he and Chris Finney have their own real estate connections influencing his decision?) In any event, the following letter from Robert Greewald (producer/director Wal-Mart:  The High Cost of Low Price) seems timely given these local developments…

Day Laborer for a Day
Thursday, December 08, 2005

Its 4:30 in the morning, and Im cutting through Washington Park on my way up to the corner of Liberty and Elm.  Most people up at this hour in Over the Rhine are not going for a morning jog, dressed in their monochromatic American Eagle sweatsuit with matching headband.  I am no exception to the norm, sporting my finest blue jeans, flannel, and horribly mismatched brown plastic bag from Kroger.

Discredited Medical Theories Still Threatening Lives
Thursday, December 08, 2005

A few weeks ago, we published this story about the American Heart Association’s new procedures for resuscitation, particularly noticing how the Heimlich Maneuver for drowning has been discredited.  This week, a San Diego writer has published another non-medical news story promoting this unsupported tactic.  How does Cincinnati’s own Dr. Henry Heimlich continue to accomplish these amazing feats of PR?

Senate Hopeful Bill Pierce Sexually Inexperienced
Thursday, December 08, 2005

Exaggerated headline?  Perhaps, but last night’s meeting at the Anderson Republican Club afforded some Ohio candidates the opportunity to speak to an audience of approximately 100 white people.  Right-winged rhetoric was turned on high as several candidates catered to some standard sounding boards, prompting Bill Pierce to tell the audience that his wife of 33 years is the only girlfriend he has ever had.  This marital faithfulness may be exemplary, but contexualized within last night’s meeting as a whole another picture emerges.

Should the Process be Slowed?
Thursday, December 08, 2005

In a joint statement, City Councilmembers Laketa Cole and David Crowley encouraged citizens to contact City Council to protest a new movement to change the rules about how Council conducts business.  Crowley said:  “This is more than just tweaking some rules, this is the way in which our government and elected officials operate. This is not Council’s business it is the public’s. We have a duty to provide adequate public input before making sweeping changes to the rules, these aren’t our rules they are the citizen’s rules.”
