“Merry Christmas” Evangelism: A Retrospective
Tuesday, December 27, 2005
|
I think a recent post by local blogger Brendan Cronin encapsulates the problem when members of a dominant religion find their personal experiences somehow universal. How convenient for this hegemony when its own feelings are the most enlightening and transcendent. At least that’s how Cronin characterizes himself in a column entitled simply ”Merry Christmas.”

Christmas Eve Deaths Tragic, Not Time For Racialized Posturing
Monday, December 26, 2005
|
Cincinnati corporate news has widely reported on the death of a young woman after a shooting at a Christmas Eve dance for teens. This loss of life is tragic, and it demands the collective grief of Cincinnati as a whole. Unfortunately, some take such circumstances and transform them into twisted opportunities for spouting divisive and racialized rhetoric.

Open Letter to Joy Rolland, Moderator of the FreeKabaka Blog
Friday, December 23, 2005
|
Dear Joy Rolland,
Several weeks ago, I sent you this public inquiry about the “Kabaka Oba Legal Defense Fund” you opened at Fifth-Third Bank. The account is just an ordinary banking account, and there is nothing about it to guarantee that money deposited is actually used for Kabaka Oba’s legal defense fund. (I called and verified this with a 5/3 employee.) In addition to never answering this simple inquiry, it has been reported that you have slandered me on your television show for asking this question.

Mayor Mallory’s Budget Rush?
Wednesday, December 21, 2005

At Tuesday’s press conference, Mayor Mallory responded to criticisms that the new budget does not include aspects promised from his campaign—like an Office of Environmental Management, or a Safety Director. Mallory stated that the current budget is a “continuation” budget, including policy from the previous Council. He promised to address his campaign points for the budget to be discussed at this time next year. But according to my sources, all may not be precisely as our new Mayor makes it appear.
