Voting Record for Steve Black is not “Black-and-White”
Saturday, September 22, 2007

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

Last week, I posted this item, which raised the question about Steve Black’s voting record.  While he is running as a Democrat against Victoria Wulsin for Congress, word has it that Black spent his life as a registered Republican.  (As a side note, this same article prompted a larger discussion about Steve Black’s ethnicity.) But more significant than the whiteness or blackness of his ancestors, it might be more significant to study his voting record.

According to my source, Steve Black took a Republican ballot as recently as the 2006 primary, and always took a Republican ballot before that.  This is particularly noteworthy, given Steve Black’s response when asked about his political orientation:

Dear [Dean]:

Thank you for your interest in my congressional campaign.  I am proud to be a Democrat, and I voted for all the Democratic candidates in the 2006 election.  My present campaign has many supporters who backed my opponent in the last campaign.  One of them was her campaign manager who has since left my campaign.  I have had no access to any information other than what is public record.

For a detailed description of my positions and background, please see my campaign website at http://www.steveblackforcongress.com.

Steve Black

This response is interesting because, if Black is referring to the general November election in 2006, then he recognizes it is not possible for anyone to know his voting record.  The only thing on record would be his participation in partisan primaries, and in the same year, Steve Black was pulling Republican primary ballots.
