As an ”adpaper,” the primary purpose of The Cincinnati Enquirer is to deliver advertisements to consumers. Typically, however, they tend to include stories that try to look like news. Today, however, the paper (at least the online version) is filled with “stories” that are really just advertisements for area restaurants. What gives?
Though the links will only be active for the next week or so, here are all the weird stories in today’s adpaper:
*PIzza: Dewey’s
*Italian restaurant: Barresi’s
*Ethnic: Baba India
*Butcher shop: Lehr’s Meats
*Bakery: The BonBonerie
*Garden center: Burger Farm
*Hair Salon: Aveda Fredric’s Salon
*Spa: SIA Spa
*Gym: Tri-Health Fitness
*Bowling: Madison Bowl
This is quite the extensive spread from Rachael Richardson, who is listed as a reporter for the East communities in the “Hometown Enquirer” department.
Maybe I’m missing something, or maybe this whole thing would make more visual sense in a print layout—but it seems strange that so much space would be dedicated to free advertising disguised as news.
