The Beacon’s very own Justin Jeffre and Michael Earl Patton are on the ballot for Cincinnati City Council, and now both of them have endorsements from Cincinnati’s growing third parties.  Jeffre has been endorsed by the Southwest Ohio Green Party, and yesterday Patton announced his endorsement by the Cincinnati Libertarians.  Both the local Green and Libertarian parties came together under the leadership of the NAACP in opposing the imposition of a jail tax without a vote.

Thanks to the work of activists like Justin Jeffre and Michael Earl Patton, Hamilton County now gets to vote on whether to accept or reject the so-called “comprehensive safety plan” put forth by Commissioners Pepper and Portune.

I think the participation of both the Green Party and the Libertarian party in this successful multi-partisan campaign shows that third parties are becoming more credible in the Cincinnati political landscape.

At one time, the Charter Party served as Cincinnati’s non-corporate party, but now it seems to serve as a playground for Republicans-in-hiding like Chris Bortz, or established Democrats making surprise recylced runs like Roxanne Qualls.  How independent and non-corporate can a party allege to be when its front runners are big money and established career politicians?

Join Cincinnati’s third party alliance and cast a ballot for change this November!  Vote Justin Jeffre and Michael Earl Patton, and bring a vibrant democracy to our City by strengthening the area presence of Green and Libertarian ideologies.  Remember, a healthy democracy means having a variety of perspectives to represent the broad beliefs of our diverse citizenry.  Vote third party, and bring that diversity to City Council!
